The holidays are upon us! As you gather with friends and family, please consider giving a gift that will support and strengthen the entire Durham community. As a proud member of the Durham Public School Foundation (DPS Foundation) board of directors, I'm reaching out to reach my fundraising goal of $1000 for our programs that support local public schools.

Why do I support Durham Public Schools?

I believe that we already have everything we need in our community to stand up against division, suspicion, and fear. When I was in public school I was in the room every day with people who were more like me than outward appearance would suggest, and my most talented teachers and coaches helped me appreciate the value of a friendship and solidarity that was only possible because we all brought something different to the table. It is the same for my 8 y/o now enrolled in second grade at DPS: many languages, backgrounds and cultures converge on a daily basis in the classroom, on the playground, in the cafeteria- and, those students will be living, working, and leading Durham in a couple of decades! 

Our public schools are the bedrock of our community, and help us chart a path to the future we want and deserve. Now is the time for us all to work together to make our schools more equitable and inclusive, vying for the success of every student.
